The HRF and the UPR

There are obvious advantages for cooperation amongst NGOs to ensure that our joint concerns receive appropriate prominence in the summary of stakeholders reports prepared by the OHCHR and used in the review itself. Thanks to the inaugural NZ Law Foundation Shadow Report Award, the HRF has been able to start coordinating NGO’s reports along with the Wellington-based Peace Movement Aotearoa.

To begin this coordination process, the Human Rights Foundation convened a meeting of interested NGOs at the Auckland Trades Union Building, 147 Great North Rd, Grey Lynn on Thursday 11 April. There were presentations on the UPR second cycle followed by a discussion about how best to proceed with this year’s stakeholder’s reports. A second meeting was held on Thursday 9 May at the same time and place and the next meeting is on Thursday 6 June from 5pm to 7pm – interested NGOs welcome.

Should you wish to be involved in the process, please contact our coordinator,
